THE SILE

The Sile, rising in the plain, is one of the longest resurgence rivers in the world.
The constant flow and the moderate current has made it constantly navigable and used for water power, while the temperature of the resurgence waters and the fluids of the soil rich in peat have favoured the development of a flourishing agriculture.
The river has always been the ideal place for the establishment of mills; in 1800 in Treviso there were 81 of them, while nowadays there are only a few visible in the area of the San Francesco bridge and in the Pescheria. The last stretch, navigable until the Venetian Lagoon, is particularly interesting from the historical and naturalistic point of view.
